Moss off, tiles unharmed

Moss loves the South East — mild, damp, plenty of tree cover. A furry green roof isn't just cosmetic: moss holds water against tiles, freezes and cracks them in winter, and slides off in clumps to block your gutters.

Why we never pressure wash roofs

You'll see companies blasting roofs with pressure washers, and the before/after photos look great. Here's what the photos don't show: pressure washing strips the protective surface off concrete tiles, ages them by decades in an afternoon, forces water under the covering, and voids most tile manufacturers' guarantees. We won't do it, even if you ask nicely.

Our method is slower and kinder: hand scraping and brushing from access equipment to remove the bulk, then a soft biocide treatment that kills the remaining growth at the root and keeps regrowth away for years. The roof comes up clean without losing a single year of its life.

What's included in a clean

  • Hand scrape and brush of every slope, ridge and valley.
  • Gutter and downpipe clear — everything we remove comes down and goes away with us.
  • Biocide application to kill spores and slow regrowth (we use products approved for use near gardens and pets, applied in dry weather).
  • A slipped-tile and mortar check while we're up there — think of it as a free mini-inspection.

Will the moss come back?

Honestly: eventually, yes — you live in Sussex, not Arizona. But treated roofs stay clear far longer, typically four to six years before light regrowth appears, and a maintenance re-treatment is a fraction of the first clean. North-facing slopes and homes under big trees (looking at you, Sevenoaks and East Grinstead) benefit from copper ridge strips, which slowly release a natural moss inhibitor every time it rains.

What it costs: Most moss removals with biocide treatment run £450–£950 depending on roof size, pitch and how established the moss is. Every job gets a fixed written quote before we start.
